CAT Scan

Details about our service

CAT Scan (Computed Axial Tomography) is an imaging tool that uses ionizing radiation and computer technology to capture spherical cross-sectional slices of the anatomy being scanned. This is a painless process and is quite fast. Our typical CAT Scan exam takes no more than 15 minutes. We use one of the industry’s best scanners, which is a Canon Aquilion. This imaging tool is far more detailed than conventional X-ray. This is a proven system in the CAT Scan world, and we are proud to say this. CAT Scan best visualizes bony detail and is fast enough to acquire imaging of the abdomen and lungs. Some CAT Scan exams will require contrast. This contrast can be oral or intravenous and sometimes both to detect abnormalities in the part being scanned.

When would a CAT scan be ordered?

Here are some common reasons your doctor may order a CAT Scan

Detailed Imaging Needed:

X-rays have been a long-lasting imaging technique which initially produced a flat and two-dimensional image. When a radiography does not clearly justify an accurate diagnosis, CAT scan allows a cross-sectional view of bones, soft tissues and of blood vessels to visualize with greater accuracy than a plain film Xray. .

Internal bleeding:

CAT scans can discover internal bleeding in the chest, abdomen, or brain, which in the event of not being treated can equally be dangerous or even fatal. Often used to diagnose blood clots in the body and pulmonary embolism in the lungs.

Cancer diagnosis and staging:

CAT scan is among one of the diagnostic procedures that can mostly identify cancer, its size and location, as well as assessment of the disease stage.

Infections:

CAT scans may assist in the diagnosis of infections in various organs, such as the lungs, abdomen and pelvis.

Internal injuries:

Many people occasionally suffer from a multitude of injuries or accidents, with CAT Scan being a fast imaging tool, it is utilized in most emergency situations.

Pre-surgical planning:

CAT scan gives anatomical details that are crucial to know when planning a surgery and provides detailed anatomic information useful to the surgeons during intra-operative procedures.
